Uttlesford
The 2375 acre site of Stansted Airport lies within Uttlesford district. Stansted Airport handled around 15 million passengers in the 12 months to Summer 2002 and is expected to reach around 25 million passengers a year in 2010. In 2001 around 10,000 people were employed at the airport. This will grow to about 13,000 in 2010.
The new A120 between Stansted Airport and Braintree was completed in 2004.
The West Anglia Railway serves settlements in the west of the district, with the main line running into Stansted Airport. There is a fast service every 15 minutes to Liverpool Street from Stansted Airport, between the Monday- Friday morning and evening commuter peaks and an hourly service between Cambridge, Audley End and London Liverpool Street.
The local plan makes provision for new business, industrial and warehousing development in Saffron Walden and Great Dunmow. The locations and scale of these sites are intended to provide opportunities for local firms to grow.
There is scope for redevelopment at Chesterford Park, north of Saffron Walden, where research and development facilities are proposed.
There are significant areas identified within the Stansted Airport boundary for development directly related to or associated with its operation. The Council strongly encourages such uses to locate on the airport, where land is safeguarded for such purposes.
