The smart place to invest Tilbury Fort
With a local economy dominated by logistics, manufacturing and petrochemicals, Thurrock is a thriving commercial centre with excellent transport links.

Thurrock

Thurrock Council seeks a vibrant, flourishing local economy, in which the growth generated by competitive dynamic businesses is shared by diverse, thriving communities.

Thurrock is a bustling commercial location situated less than 20 miles from London at a national transport hub where the M25, new A13 and Dartford Crossings converge.Thurrock is home to the Port of Tilbury, Purfleet Thames Terminal and a top performing rail link to London. City and Southend Airports are both close and the new Channel Tunnel Rail Link is under construction within the borough.

Thurrock has a broad economic base fusing excellence across all sectors. Unemployment averaged around 3% throughout 2001/2, comfortably below the levels of neighbouring London boroughs and Britain as a whole. A strong, resilient manufacturing and petrochemicals sector (including many leading multinationals such as Procter & Gamble, Unilever, BP and Cargill) employs thousands of local people. These activities exist in harmony with a flourishing retail sector largely concentrated around Lakeside, Europe’s largest shopping centre and retail park.

Logistics is Thurrock’s key sector with the borough’s enviable strategic location making it a national leader. Including international players such as Tibbett & Britten, Canute, Exel and the Port of Tilbury cluster, logistics perform an irreplaceable role in the wider economy.

Thurrock Council seeks to work in partnership to generate a vibrant commercial atmosphere supportive of existing firms and attractive to inward investors. Thurrock is an area of exciting growth and outstanding opportunity, the future is extremely bright and we would be very happy to hear from anyone wishing to share in it.
