The smart place to invest London Southend Airport
Just 14 miles from the M25, Rochford’s economic prosperity is based on historic links with the aviation sector, as well as a thriving small business community.

Rochford

Located 14 miles from the M25, the district of Rochford offers an enviable transport network, with easy access to Europe and beyond. It is serviced by the A127 to the south, the A13 and A130 to the west, linking to the A12 in the north. The A130 bypass, when fully completed, will further increase the access of Rochford as a business location.

London Southend Airport located adjacent to the southern boundary of the district is planning a new passenger terminal and railway station linked to London Liverpool Street Station.

The district is predominantly rural with the three main urban centres in Rayleigh, Hockley and Rochford. There are seven industrial estates located within the district, with the additional new Rochford Business Park planned for land adjacent to the A127. Rochford, like other parts of south east Essex, has a higher proportion of small companies than the national average and these dominate the local economy. The majority of larger employers in the district are engineering firms, with an impressive range of aviation related industry at the airport and Aviation Way Industrial Estate.

With a population of just under 79,000 Rochford is a relatively small district with 60% of its residents of working age. The unemployment rate is lower than in Essex as a whole with most employment being in utilities, construction and communications.

The Council recognises that successful economic development in the area is dependent upon partnership working. It works closely with business support agencies such as the Business Enterprise Agency of South East Essex, Business Link for Essex and the local Chambers of Trade and Commerce to deliver first class support for businesses.
